Huang Ruo builds on a new musical style that bridges two seemingly completely different musical worlds – that of the West and that of Asia.
British DJ Actress (aka Darren Cunningham) is praised world-wide for his progressive and experimental techno music. For a commission by the Holland Festival he composed a new work for voices, artificial intelligence and electronics, inspired and based on Stockhausen’s WELT-PARLAMENT (1995), which is being performed in the same festival as part of aus LICHT. The Netherlands Chamber Choir will be performing both the original version in aus LICHT as well as Actress’ 21st-century version. Stockhausen’s ‘world parliament’ culminated in a dome on top of a skyscraper, but this time (real) politicians will be ‘in the cloud’ to talk about love. Their voices will shape a network of sound which will be manipulated live by Cunningham and Young Paint, an artificial intelligence.
