-Concerts have already been performed-

The third out of four concerts this season in which the Concertgebouw Orchestra explores the relation between Bach and Brahms

Brahms offered an active contribution to the gradual reappraisal of Bach’s oeuvre by programming his works and collaborating on publications of the Bach Gesellschaft. This reflected on Brahms’ own compositions: Bach helped Brahms to shake off the ‘giant’ Beethoven in his First Symphony. By combining the classical symphonic form with an extensive control of polyphonic techniques à la Bach, Brahms became the new big symphonicus.
