The music of Russian/American composer Lera Auerbach (1973) is packed with fire and eloquence. In 2016 the world premiere of her composition 72 Angels for choir and saxophone quartet was received with great enthusiasm. Goetia is the sequel to this masterpiece and promises to be no less sensational. For this Dutch premiere the Nederlands Kamerkoor joins forces with the renowned Quatuor Danel from France.

72 Angels, written for 24 singers and saxophone quartet, sings the praises of all the angels named in the Hebrew bible. Goetia, by contrast, explores the sombre, shady world of the 72 demons. Auerbach undoubtedly deserves to be considered one of the world’s most prominent composers.

This programme is made possible in part thanks to the String Quartet Biennale Amsterdam’s collaboration.
