The biggest contemporary music hit of recent years – winning a Pulitzer Prize – was Become Ocean by the American John Luther Adams. The equally hypnotic follow-up Become Desert, commissioned partially by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, swaps the surging ocean for the blinding desert light. The orchestra also plays the world première of a piece by Peter-Jan Wagemans.

There will be an informal stage talk with Neil Wallace, Peter-Jan Wagemans and some of the musicians starting at 19.15.
