supporting programma (19.45): Vocaal Ensemble Coqu
A program that will warm the hearts of the true choral fans. The ‘miserere’ is a penitential psalm, number 51. The most famous composition of this psalms is most likely Gregorio Allegri’s. Next to his wonderful Miserere, we hear another setting of the text, by the Scottish composer James MacMillan. After our recent performances of his piece Seven last words from the Cross under the batton of the composer himself, this will be again a piece by him on our program, and it is long upbeat to our commissioning to him in 2021 for a big piece for violin and choir.
The Stabat Mater of Scarlatti for 10 voices is amongst the highlights of vocal music. The Stabat Mater is a 13th-century Catholic hymn to Mary, which portrays her suffering as Jesus Christ’s mother during his crucifixion. There are over 400 compositions to the tekst of Stabat Mater known to mankind, but this is cetrainly one of the most beautiful.
