Hubert Parry Songs of Farewell

With the Requiem by Howells and Songs of Farewell by Hubert Parry, the Nederlands Kamerkoor brings together two of the most popular British choral works in a full evening program. The popularity of both pieces lies in their accessibility as well as their beauty.

Both works were written in response to profound personal experiences of both composers.

Howells initially wrote his Requiem in memory of soldiers who had fallen during the First World War, but the writing process took a very bitter turn when his son died of polio. Hubert Parry came to his composition when some of his students did not return from the same World War. They had died on the battlefield.

The Nederlands Kamerkoor brings these compositions together and combines them with the Tenebrae Responsories by the contemporary composer James MacMillan, whose works the choir has previously performed, including the beautiful Seven last words from the Cross.
