If you hear the name Van Gogh, you are reminded of a painting or a colour. Of a landscape you have driven through. Of an absence of recognition, or of loneliness. Of your own painting talent, or lack of it. In Van Gogh in Me we focus on the spectator. What effect does Van Gogh have on you? Or on me? And on Gustav Klimt, a great admirer of Van Gogh?

In Van Gogh in Me the NKK transports its audience back to the Europe of the fin de siècle, at the end of the 19th century. The time of Satie, Debussy and Mahler, and of Van Gogh and Klimt. But also a turbulent time of new discoveries and truths, global unrest and rapid changes. In this all-round audiovisual experience the audience becomes both spectator and participant: the boundaries between music, images, artist and audience become blurred, the paintings become audible, and the musical sounds become visible. The audience not only receives an impression of the spirit of the age in Europe at the time, but can also sense the strong similarities with Europe today. Van Gogh in Me is a step into the past, and a glimpse of the future.
