Emilio Aguilar - Tenor

Emilio Aguilar is an Argentine tenor who has established himself in the Netherlands as a versatile, expressive, and warm singer. He is a core member of the Netherlands Chamber Choir and a regular freelancer with the Netherlands Bach Society. In addition, Emilio performs as a soloist in oratorio and early music concerts with ensembles such as Musica Temprana (Adrian van der Spoel), La Sfera Armoniosa (Mike Fentross), Jove Capella Reial de Catalunya (Jordi Savall), and Ensemble Elyma (Gabriel Garrido).

Emilio is a co-founder of the ensemble Seconda Practica, with which he has performed at prestigious European festivals such as the Festival d'Ambronay (France), Göttingen Handel Festival (Germany), Stockholm Early Music Festival (Sweden), Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht (Netherlands), and the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music (Austria).

Emilio's musical journey began at the age of nine, when he started taking piano lessons at the Gilardo Gilardi Conservatory in his hometown of La Plata. At the age of fifteen, he became the youngest student admitted to the vocal department of the same institution. After completing his high school diploma, Emilio studied choral conducting at the University of Fine Arts in Argentina. In September 2010, Emilio embarked on an international educational journey and moved to the Netherlands to study voice at the classical department of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam under Valerie Guillorit, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in June 2015. In 2020, Emilio completed two cum laude master’s degrees: one in Early Music Singing at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam under Xenia Meijer, and one in Cultural Analysis at the University of Amsterdam.

Alongside his career as a performing musician, Emilio has contributed to publications in journals such as Diffractions and Soapbox Journal for Cultural Analysis, as well as the Culture and Conflict series by De Gruyter (2024).
