An Elegy

An Elegy is an intimate exercise in disappearance and connection. At a time when humans and nature seem further apart than ever, the singers of NKK NXT, together with a physical performer and a percussionist, attempt to come together. An exercise in blending into the surroundings, while also asking: are we still capable of doing so? Have we not distanced ourselves too much from everything around us?

The landscape is a living co-performer that speaks and sings. Sand, breath, grass, movement, birds, a passing stranger, and percussion together form a musical painting in which watching slowly gives way to participation.

An invitation to listen more deeply. To the earth. To all that lives.

An Elegy is a production by Studio Vacuüm and NKK NXT, the traineeship of the Nederlands Kamerkoor (Dutch Chamber Choir). Composer and director Mees Vervuurt has created a new composition for this performance in which all singers perform in their own native languages: Korean, Catalan, Occitan, French, Portuguese, Dutch, and Cypriot Greek.
