Recently, the Netherlands Chamber Choir and Amsterdam Sinfonietta were praised as a 'heavenly match'. This program is a revival of the hugely successful South American tour of the two ensembles in 2017. An earlier attempt to bring this program to the Netherlands was stranded on the waves of corona.
All the works are, as it were, little requiems. Knut Nystedt's Immortal Bach resounds around the audience to the text Komm, süßer Tod. Bach wrote his Chaconne in memory of his deceased wife. Da Pacem Domine is a tribute to the victims of the attack in Madrid in 2004. And Shostakovich's Kammersymphonie is a requiem for his own independence as an artist under the yoke of the Soviet regime.
And then, yes then, Fauré's magical Requiem, in this arrangement for string orchestra, two horns, choir and soloists. A truly 'heavenly match'. With the simple but effective mise en espace, this programme gains even more power!
