On February 2, it will be exactly 25 years since Queen Máxima – though not yet Queen at the time – moved the entire Netherlands with her tear. Her personal emotion, paired with Astor Piazzolla's Adiós Nonino performed by bandoneonist Carel Kraayenhof and the Netherlands Chamber Choir, became one of the most memorable moments in Dutch television history.
In a special concert program, the Netherlands Chamber Choir marks the 25th wedding anniversary of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. Together with bandoneonist Carel Kraayenhof and the Matangi Quartet, the choir performs a South American program centered around art, love, and life itself. Alongside beloved works by Piazzolla – naturally including his Adiós Nonino – Ariel Ramírez’s cherished Misa Criolla will be a major highlight. This famous mass beautifully weaves spiritual expression with the rich soundscape of South American music.
With Adiós Nonino, the Netherlands Chamber Choir pays a spectacular tribute to the royal couple. The concert is conducted by Ed Spanjaard, who not only stood at the cradle of the original wedding concert, but has also been the driving force behind this unique collaboration between Carel Kraayenhof, the Netherlands Chamber Choir, and the other participating musicians.
Anniversary Concert on February 2
On February 2, the Netherlands Chamber Choir pulls out all the stops for an extra grand performance at The Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Especially for this memorable evening, the choir shares the stage with the Residentie Orchestra and the National Youth Choir. Together with Carel Kraayenhof and conductor Ed Spanjaard, they will perform the impressive arrangements and the Misa Criolla in a grand, symphonic setting. A unique concert that brings royal history to life once more.
