Marina Cabau

Marina Cabau is a soprano from Catalunya, currently based in Groningen. She later specialized in Lied with Francisco Poyato, Josep Surinyac, Assumpta Mateu and Alan Branch.

Choral singing was Marina’s starting point in music, and she has sung with ensembles such as the Orfeó Català and Cor de Noies at the Palau de la Música Catalana, Bach Collegium Barcelona, and the Luthers Bach Ensemble, among others. Together with pianist Miquel Villalba, she created Nit de llum and Un mapa del cos, performances that blend music, poetry, and visual art. She enjoys exploring how different disciplines can meet through music.

After completing her Master of Music with Hanneke de Wit, Marina began working as a junior researcher for Music in Context at Hanze University of Applied Sciences, where she studied how acting techniques can help performers structure their work and improve communication on stage.

Joining NKK NXT feels like the perfect space for Marina to continue experimenting and growing: a place to sing classical repertoire alongside new creations, and to present them in ways that help audiences connect without fear of “not understanding.” She often thinks of her parents, who are not musicians and sometimes feel out of place at classical concerts. Marina aims to create performances where everyone feels welcome—where it is not about fitting in, but about being moved by something.
